Sheet metal guillotines or power shears are designed for cutting sheet materials. The metal sheet is held in position, on the bed, with a hold-down device such as hydraulic or spring operates rams or clamp-bar. The top blade passes vertically across the bottom cutting blade, which is fixed to the bed of the machine, with a shearing scissor type action generating the cut. A backgauge maybe fitted which enables repeatability of size for multiple components. Sheet metal guillotines are designated by maximum length of cut and maximum thickness in mild steel, control can be manual, semi-automatic or full CNC.
